Artsakh war has originated in the beginning of 20th century(in 1918-1920). In this time Nagorno Karabakh de jure haven't been the part of any country, including Azerbaijan. According to the contract in Batumi, which was signed under the pressure of Ottoman Turkey, beyond the borders of newly formed Armenian Democratic Republic were been many areas populated by Armenians, including Artsakh. From all this make use of the leaders of newly-created country, which called Azerbaijan, and declare Gardmank, Artsakh, Zangezur and Nakhichevan a part of their country, but Armenian population of that places maked a decisive resistance to occupants.
For using his right to Self-Determination people of Nagorno Karabakh elected "People's Representation" (Parliament)- Congress of people of Artsakh, which during 1918-20 represented supreme and proxy organ of Artsakh. Azerbaijani government tried to subordinate to annexation Nagorno Karabakh with help of Ottoman Turks.
Since 1988 Azerbaijan started Armenian-Azerbaijani war.Well armed Azerbaijani Army started large-scale attack along all Armenian- Azerbaijani border. During the war Armenians unitedly created National Army of Armenia, which was about 20-25 thousand. The Army of Azerbaijan was 75-80 thousand.But Armenians could throw away the attacks of enemy an liberate Artsakh. Because of expert shots of Azerbaijani Army were killed thousands of Armenian civilians. The Armenian side lost Artsvashen, part of Martakert, Martuni, Shahumian. Enemy couldn't resist to decisive actions of Armenian Forces and fear of the idea to have more losses, asked for a truce, which was signed in May 12 iin1994. After all Armenians had 5000 victims (as well as thousand of victims in civilians' circle) and Azerbaijan's 40.000 victims.
During Artsakh war Armenian nation showed his power of unity, he could stop the aggression of enemy and liberate part of Armenian areas.
